Top 7 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Videographer

Are you searching for a wedding videographer and unsure of what to ask? Travis Monroe of Monroe Film and Photo recently highlighted common questions to ask wedding videographers on our YouTube channel.

How Much Coverage Do We Need?

Coverage needs vary, but Monroe Film and Photo offers 8-hour and 10-hour packages. An 8-hour package typically covers from 12:30 to 8:30, targeting 30 minutes before the first look through the first dances. The 10-hour package adds extra time for capturing more details of getting ready or extending coverage to later evening events like bouquet tosses or special dances. Determine what type of hours you are getting and what the videographer typically records during that time frame.

What Type of Deliverables Are We Getting?

Most videographers offer a highlight trailer. Monroe Film and Photo includes a documentary edit of the full ceremony, grand march, speeches, and first dances in their packages. Clarify what edits are included and if there are extra charges for additional edits.

What is RAW Footage?
Raw footage is unedited and may require video editing knowledge to make it look its best. Understand what you're getting and if you're comfortable editing it. Some companies may not release raw footage.

How Many Videographers Will Be There?

Monroe Film and Photo typically uses one videographer who uses multiple cameras for major events. This approach allows them to blend in and capture the day in a documentary style. Some companies may have two or three shooters, offering a more extensive production feel. Consider your preference for the wedding day's atmosphere.

Will We Have Drone Footage?

Drone footage availability varies among companies. Monroe Film and Photo includes it in their video packages, but it's conditional based on weather and location restrictions (e.g., proximity to airports). Safety is a priority. If drone footage is important, inquire about its availability and any associated conditions.

How Will You Capture Audio?

Good audio is essential. Videographers use various methods, such as miking the groom and officiant and getting a DJ line feed. Monroe Film and Photo uses multiple audio sources as backup. If you have specific audio you want to be highlighted, such as letters read to each other, communicate this to your videographer.

What About Music?

Monroe Film and Photo selects music that fits your style and offers choices. However, securing music rights is crucial. Mainstream music may not always be available due to licensing restrictions. Discuss music preferences and the videographer's access to different music platforms.

Top 8 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Planning a wedding involves countless decisions, and choosing the right photographer is crucial for preserving your special day's memories. In a recent video, Travis highlighted the top eight questions couples should ask when searching for a wedding photographer. This guide covers everything from coverage hours to color preferences, ensuring you find a photographer who meets your needs and vision.

Key Questions to Consider

  1. How Many Hours of Coverage Do I Need?
The amount of coverage needed varies depending on how much detail you want captured. Some couples want every little detail documented, while others prefer a focus on key moments. Packages typically range from 8 to 10 hours.

  2. What Happens Between Getting Ready and the Ceremony?
Coordinate a timeline with your photographer to maximize photo opportunities before the ceremony. This includes first looks, bridal party photos, and family portraits.

  3. What Happens Between the Ceremony and First dances

It’s party time for the bride and groom! Enjoy the moment with your friends and family while we capture the fun. This can also be the perfect time to capture any family portraits, license signing, or even take a moment away from the crowd.

  4. Do You Bring Flash?
Some wedding venues limit use of flash photography, along with some photographers that do not shoot with flash. If you have a certain shot in mind, share it. An experienced photographer should have similar shots in the catalog to share and explain their technique in capturing the image.

  5. How Many People Are on Your Team?
Photographers may work solo or with a team. A second shooter can add flexibility and speed to the wedding day. For those that want to keep things more low key feeling, a larger photography team may not be what you are looking for.

  6. Are You Comfortable Using Different Lenses?
During the key moments, where do you want your photographer? Are they on the alter with you? Or are they blending in the background.

  7. What Exactly Is Included in Terms of Deliverables?
Most photographers provide edited digital images. Ask about the number of photos you can expect and if you'll have the rights to print them.

  8. How Would You Describe the Coloring of Your Images?
Photographic styles vary, from natural to bright and airy or darker tones. Choose a photographer whose aesthetic aligns with your preferences to avoid disappointment.
